Eighteenth Century

The house appears to have been refurbished in the early eighteenth century. There are no
complete schemes but evidence for this refurbishment can be found in the presence of a number
of bolection moulded fireplaces (RG2, RG5, RF4) and an eared fireplace in Room RG4, which
dates from around the 1720s or 1730s. The kitchen window is an early C18 sash and the porch to
the north of the kitchen was added at the same time. The “L” hinges date the door to the same
period of remodelling. There are a few examples of early eighteenth century doors at Lower
Ground Level; the door to the kitchen RB4 (re-used) and the external door to the kitchen (RB8).
Door architraves at ground and first floor level are stepped and were probably installed in the early
eighteenth century. At first & second floor level 6-panel doors with ogee mouldings were adopted.
The original eighteenth century doors at ground floor level (probably raised & fielded panelled
doors) were replaced in the nineteenth century.
